(Non-)linear stiffness customisation of metallic additive manufactured springs

نویسندگان

چکیده

Additive manufacturing (AM) facilitates the fabrication of compliant mechanisms through its free-form and design customisation capabilities. Specifically, properties kinetic such as springs can be extended with regards to their inherent (non-)linear stiffness functions. This allows for AM according user preferences. By combining synthesis approach building blocks structural optimisation AM, it is possible define customise spring functionalities. The process employs an automated computational framework based on a genetic algorithm scheme, which has been demonstrated randomised reference case studies. enables attainment linear, progressive (stiffening), degressive (softening) curves. manufacturability validated laser powder bed fusion using stainless-steel material 17–4 PH (H900). have resulted in accuracy error maximum 6.48% precision 5% compression testing.

Characterization of Additive Manufactured Objects

Hybrid Layered Manufacturing (HLM) combines the benefits of both subtractive and Additive Manufacturing (AM). In this paper authors did characterization of AM components by using Kernel Average Misorientation (KAM), Electron Backscatter Diffraction (EBSD) and hardness tester. The main focus is on matrix integrity during Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) deposition and surface quality during machinin...

Planar analysis of a quasi-zero stiffness mechanism using inclined linear springs

Negative stiffness mechanisms have seen renewed attention in recent years for their ability to reduce the resonance frequency of a structure without impeding their load-bearing ability. Such devices are often described as having quasi-zero stiffness when the negative stiffness is tuned to reduce the overall stiffness of the system as close to zero as possible without creating an instability. Th...

Grain Structure Control of Additively Manufactured Metallic Materials

Grain structure control is challenging for metal additive manufacturing (AM). Grain structure optimization requires the control of grain morphology with grain size refinement, which can improve the mechanical properties of additive manufactured components. This work summarizes methods to promote fine equiaxed grains in both the additive manufacturing process and subsequent heat treatment. Influ...
